A new journey

Recently I have seen quite a few documentaries on sustainable living and one of the most well known ones that really had an impact on my life was called Food Inc. If you haven't seen this I would highly reccomend that you check it out. But anyways, back to my story.. Recently I came across a site. 100 days of real food. It's the story of a familys journey through eating whole foods. Nothing processed. Just good food the way it is made. Fresh, wholesome and nutritious.

I have been on a journey of eating healthier and better since watching food inc and thought. "if she can do it so can I!" I talked it over with my husband to get his thoughts as he will be the one having to eat what I cook and I wanted to make sure I would have his support and he would have my back as we cut out proccessed foods when the kids wanted something on the "not allowed" list. Thankfully my husband is awesome and supports this adventure I'm taking the family on 100%. YAY! So starting Friday May 13th we will begin this challenge and will continue until the end of August.

Here is a list of the current rules for our real food only challenge.

What can be eaten:
Lots of fruits and vegetables
Whole foods that are as close to nature as possible
100% whole grain and wheats
Drinks like water, Milk, natural juices and naturally sweetened coffee and tea.
All natural sweetners. ie honey, 100% maple syrup
Dairy products: Milk, unsweetened yogurt, eggs and cheese.
Seafood: Wild caught
Snacks: Dried fruit, seeds, nuts and popcorn
As many items as possible must be bought locally or as close to local as possible and organic.
Things not able to purchase local will be fair trade and organic.
Things on the cannot eat list:

Refined sugars: corn syrup, cane juice or products like splenda
Refined grains: White flour or white rice
Nothing that comes in a box, bag, can or other container that has more than 5 ingredients on the label with mystery items. If I can't pronounce it or know what it is, it's off limits.
No fast foods
No deep fat fried foods

Well, I don't eat quite that perfectly, but we don't do a lot of things with extra ingredients! I just found your blog and will be interested in your journey. I too, find that a day of processed foods (even a meal) doesn't sit well with my system.

Thanks for stopping by! It's been interesting so far, but thankfully my family is a good sport. :) Yay for getting rid of those extra things in our food!
