Honey Tootsie Rolls

One of my favorite candies ever is footsie rolls. After Halloween ended I realized I not even once bought any!! My kids don't go out trick or treating Anymore, so I couldn't raid their candy stash. We have replaced the usual Halloween shenanigans with a scary movie, too much unhealthily foods and of course candy. Lots and lots of candy! But back to the reason for is post.. TOOTSIE ROLLS!!!

I went on a recipe search and couldn't find one that didn't also include corn syrup. Ever since our real food challenge this is one item that has stayed off of my grocery list and out of the house. I didn't have much luck finding anything without this item so I just played around with a few recipes, subbed in some honey for the syrup and I hit the jackpot!! These literally take a few minutes to make. The hubby says its almost like eating chocolate frosting combined with fudge. Whatever it is... It's a little bit of heaven!!

Honey tootsie rolls

1/4 c baking cocoa powder ( I preferred the dark chocolate)
1 c    Powder sugar
1/4 c Powder milk
1/4 c Honey
2 Tab butter (melted)

Add all the dry ingredients into a bowl. Then add the honey and melted butter. Knead with your hands just like playdough when you were a kid until all the yummy mixture comes together. It seems like there is way to much dry mixture but just keep going and all the sugar will mix in.

Once mixture comes together form into a log shape. Now come the fun Part. You can divide up the dough, roll into long strips and make a bunch of little tootsie rolls or you can leave it as a log and just slice a chunk off when you get a craving for a little chocolatey goodness.

Whatever you choose to do I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I did. I apologize for the lack of photo.. This doesn't last long in my home and gets eaten before the camera can even be taken out.

P.S. I highly recommend making a double batch. One for the family and one just for you! lol

P.P.S. oh and I just had a thought... Adding vanilla beans and using white chocolate!! Mmm.
